Karnaphuli (Bangla: কর্ণফুলি Kôrnophuli) (also spelt Karnafuli) is a 667 m wide river in the south-eastern part of Bangladesh. Originating from the Lushai hills in Mizoram, India, it flows 270 km (170 miles) southwest through Chittagong Hill Tracts and Chittagong into the Bay of Bengal. A large hydroelectric power plant using Karnaphuli river was built in the Kaptai region during the 1960s. The mouth of the river hosts Chittagong sea port, the main port of Bangladesh.
The largest port in Bangladesh (Chittagong) is located at the entrance to the Karnaphuli River, which discharges into the Bay of Bengal. Substantial sedimentation takes place in the bay just in front of the harbor as well as further upstream in the Karnaphuli. The MIKE 21 C was applied in connection with feasibility studies of various river training measures such as guide walls, groynes, dredging.
Morphological changes in the tidal river were simulated over a month in the monsoon and in the dry season, respectively.
